Tax Relief and Support for Businesses in Response to Tariffs
The Government of Canada is recognizing that the tariffs are having an impact on Canadian businesses. Here’s a clear summary of the support the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is providing to businesses in response to tariffs:
What Support Is Being Offered?
- Deferral of Payments:
- GST/HST remittances and corporate income tax (T2) payments can be deferred from April 2 to June 30, 2025.
- Interest Waiver:
- No interest will accrue on GST/HST and T2 instalments or arrears due between April 2 and June 30, 2025.
- Existing Balance Relief:
- Relief also applies to existing GST/HST balances during this period.
What Do You Need to Do?
- Continue to file your GST/HST and T2 returns on time (by their regular due dates).
- No application required—you do not need to demonstrate financial hardship or the impact of tariffs.
- CRA will automatically apply the relief to eligible accounts.
When Does Interest Resume?
Interest starts accruing again on July 1, 2025, so please note that typical deadlines and payment frequencies will resume at this time.
